| Known as the king of the jungle, despite living in the grasslands, scrub and open woodlands of sub-Saharan Africa. Lions are social animals and live together in large groups of up to 30 known as a pride. Big, quick, strong and agile, they are magnificent hunters. Lions will bite a victims throat, crushing their windpipe. Males protect their prides from other lions while the females hunt (antelope, buffalo and wildebeest), usually at night. The smaller Asian lion is found in India. |
