| A Grand Slam champion at 19, just 3 years after turning pro. His deadly serve, considered the greatest in history, earned him the nickname Pistol Pete. He fired down hundreds of aces on route to winning 7/8 Wimbledon titles between 1993-2000, his only loss was in the 1996 quarter-finals to Dutchman Richard Krajicek. Sampras finished as World #1 for six consecutive seasons and had no consistent rivals in the post Lendl/Becker/Edberg and pre Federer/Nadal/Djokovic era. |
