| A teenage French Open champion, Wilander is the only man to have won 4 Grand Slams before the age of 20. Although Ivan Lendl comfortably lead their head to head, Wilander won 3 of their 5 Grand Slam final meetings, in one of the great rivalries of that era. In 1988 after six years at the top, aged just 24, Wilander inexplicably lost motivation. Some speculate that was due to the gradual shift to a power hitting, baseline game. He would only win one more title before fading into retirement. |
