| Vultures are scavengers that feast on carrion. They play an important role in the ecosystem, ridding deserts, savannas and grasslands of rotting and diseased flesh. They excrete onto their legs which not only keeps them cool but the acid in their excrement kills off bacteria. The 'old world vultures' are found in Africa, Asia and Europe while the 'new world vultures' are found in the Americas. Vultures can rise to 10,000 feet in order to scan areas for prey. |
